Metallurgical Engineer
We are looking for a Metallurgical Engineer to join our team in Lansing, NY. This entry-level position plays a critical role in the preparation of metallographic samples for microscopic and mechanical evaluation. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to quality and safety in a laboratory environment.
Location: Lansing, NY Salary: $67,000-$75,000

Your Challenge \n - Conduct material characterization, and metallurgical evaluations using advanced analytical techniques. Support failure analysis testing as needed.
\n - Perform microstructural analysis, weld evaluations, aggressive machining, and other metallurgical tests per customer and industry specifications.
\n - Develop and execute test plans for standard and custom projects, ensuring compliance with ASTM and other relevant standards.
\n - Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing findings and recommendations for clients.
\n - Collaborate with customers to interpret specifications and resolve technical issues.
\n - Train and guide laboratory personnel in sample preparation, test setup, and data collection.
\n - Maintain IMR's quality and safety standards throughout all testing processes.
\n - Support continuous improvement projects within the metallurgy department.
\n - Participate in customer audits and provide technical support during on-site visits.

What You Bring \n - Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (Master's preferred).
\n - 3-5 years of experience in metallurgical testing, failure analysis, or related laboratory work.
\n - Proficiency with metallurgical instruments such as optical and scanning electron microscopes (SEM), hardness testers, and spectrometers.
\n - Strong knowledge of ASTM standards and industry specifications.
\n - Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and client interaction.
\n - Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
