The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence by accident by suicide suddenly when in apparent health when unattended by a physician in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.

OCMEs Human Resources Department is looking for a Labor Investigator to handle employee discipline grievance and laborrelated matters. The selected candidate will interact with various stakeholders including but not limited to labor unions to promote positive labor relations and handle disciplinary matters. They will also be involved in conducting training.


The candidate will be expected to perform specific responsibilities including but not limited to:


Collecting and analyzing documentary evidence in support of disciplinary grievance or OATH hearings.
Attending disciplinary hearings or grievances. May serve as a Step II Hearing Officer from time to time.
Conducting research and providing guidance on collective bargaining agreements civil service laws and labor laws.
Liaising with employees unions and other citywide agencies regarding laborrelated issues.
Providing guidance to supervisors and managers regarding contractual disciplinary procedures.
Liaising with the DOHMH Employment Law Unit and the Office of Labor Relations.
Assisting in the agencywide performance management and evaluation process including answering questions.
Preparing reports spreadsheets and other tracking methods regarding discipline performance management or labor relations matters.
Reviewing and providing feedback to supervisors and managers regarding warning memos writeups and other disciplinary or performance actions.

Qualifications :

1. A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory fulltime experience in one or more of the fields of accounting auditing correction administration criminal justice administration and planning forensic science inspection investigation law enforcement personnel administration police science and/or security or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or

3. Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 or 2 above.
