Position Summary


The deputy city manager is a newly created position in the City of Brooklyn Center. Reporting directly to the city manager, this role will be pivotal in both strategic and administrative capacities, enhancing operational excellence and improving service delivery. By increasing efficiencies, the deputy city manager will enable employees to perform their best work every day. Additionally, they will lead or play a key role in significant projects aimed at achieving the city's strategic priorities.
Work includes overseeing the Department of Administration, including the Office of the City Clerk, IT, and communications, partnering with other department heads, and engaging with City Council and members of the community. In the absence of the city manager, the deputy city manager will interact with department heads and other employees to carry out directives established by city manager and the City Council.
The person in this role needs to cultivate strong and trusting relationships with employees, citizens, businesses, elected officials, and community groups and agencies. They are skilled at being able to work successfully with a wide variety of people and are committed to actualizing diversity, equity and inclusion. The outcome of the deputy city manager's work helps brand the City of Brooklyn Center as a great place to live, work, go to school and shop.
