Summary:
The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is responsible for providing direct clinical care in the out-patient practice and in-patient hospital coverage. The CNM is responsible for the full scope of midwifery practice including well woman gynecological care throughout the reproductive Brown University Health peri and post menopausal periods GYN problem visits testing and contraception counseling and prescription insertion and removal of intrauterine devices. The CNM manages high risk pregnancies in consultation with physicians. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patient.
Responsibilities:
Diagnoses monitors and examines women during pregnancy.

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Master�s of Science in Nursing (MSN) required. American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) required. Current State of RI Midwifery Licensure and controlled substance registration required. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process. EXPERIENCE: 2 years� clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology experience as a Certified Nurse Midwife preferred. Must have patient care services procedures and privileges approved by the sponsoring physician. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Healthcare environment such as hospital physician�s office practice and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Any hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions.
